Parental Rights in Jeopardy?

One of the issues I have been watching for the past year is the issue of Parental Rights.  Most people are unaware that our courts are using International Law as a basis for justifying decisions in U.S. courts!

Just recently, the U.S. Supreme court referenced the UN convention on the Rights of a Child in a court case concerning juvenile felons and their sentences.

In Washington D.C. the debate continues on whether or not we, as a Sovereign Nation, will bind ourselves to this UN Convention whichs has not been passed as U.S. law.  More specifically, this move would  subject our States and National governments to United Nations “law” which will supersede the rights given to us by our own laws.

To say that we should be concerned and active in this debate is an understatement.  I can’t think of an issue more urgent for Christian parents in today’s society.

I urge you to visit ParentalRights.org to get the latest on this issue, and to sign up for their “alert system“.

Currently, Senator Jim DeMint has introduced a resolution urging President Obama not to send the UN child rights treaty to the Senate for ratification.  The stated goal of ParentalRights.org is to get at least 34 co-sponsors of S. Res. 519.  If successful, the CRC will be dead at least until this congress is replaced in 2011.

Separation of Church and State

I enjoy regular updates from citizenlink.com, an organization dedicated to political action among Christians, and run by Focus on the Family.

In a video released yesterday, they address the mis-conceptions so many deal with when it comes to the separation of church and state.

Too many Christians have bought into the false ideas that the “Separation” is in our constitution, and further, that it was meant to keep the government from any kind of relationship with Christianity … not true.

Jefferson was addressing the concern that a church of America would develop much like the church of England.

Truth is, Jefferson himself participated in worship services within the capital building right after penning the now famous and misused term “Wall of separation between church and state …”

One of our greatest tools in being effective Christians is to understand and hold history in an historical perspective!
