Independence Day … How did you remember?

Our family has been trying more recently to make sure that we include a reading of the Declaration of Independence along with some study of one or more of the founding fathers on July 4th.

Where our Nation rose from, and how the foundations were formed are utterly important when trying to navigate the current climate of “progressivism” and outright denial of these formations.

Dr. Jay Richards has written an excellent article dealing with the need to trace the roots and foundations of our nation beyond the founding fathers, and deeper to where their thoughts were formulated … most significantly to the Judeo-Christian values which come directly from the Bible.

I encourage you to take a few minutes to read the following from Dr. Richards.

Why Every Parent Should Be Paying Attention!

In a very thoughtful and disturbing column written for the Washing Times, Marybeth Hicks lays out the concerns every parent and U.S. Citizen should have in regard to parental rights.

She says:

But if you’ve ever insisted that your teenager drag himself out of bed on a Sunday morning to attend church with the family, or required him to find a part-time job to pay for the increase in your car insurance, or — heaven forbid — if you’ve ever spanked a young child for an act of willful disobedience, there are folks who would like to override your parental judgment.

Folks like President Obama, in fact.

Take a moment to read the entire article HERE, and then read on to TAKE ACTION.

If you’ve never called you Senator or Congressman on an issue, now would be a great time to start.

ParentalRights.org has all of the information you need to call and encourage your representative to co-sponsor a critical bill in the Senate.

Refreshing for a politician … “NOBODY IN NJ IS GOING TO HAVE TO WONDER …”

Yesterday on thefoxnation.com, this video was posted of Governor Christie of New Jersey. Whether you like his politics or not, you’ve got to love a guy who is up front about “where he stands” and is willing to lay the cards on the table.

Unfortunately I couldn’t get the video embedded, but you can go here to watch it. It’s worth the 2 minutes 35 seconds!

“Now, I could say it really nicely. I could say it in a way that you all might be more comfortable with. You know maybe we could go back to the last administration where I could say it the way you wouldn’t even understand it. OK? But the fact of the matter is … THIS IS WHO I AM …”

Separation of Church and State

I enjoy regular updates from citizenlink.com, an organization dedicated to political action among Christians, and run by Focus on the Family.

In a video released yesterday, they address the mis-conceptions so many deal with when it comes to the separation of church and state.

Too many Christians have bought into the false ideas that the “Separation” is in our constitution, and further, that it was meant to keep the government from any kind of relationship with Christianity … not true.

Jefferson was addressing the concern that a church of America would develop much like the church of England.

Truth is, Jefferson himself participated in worship services within the capital building right after penning the now famous and misused term “Wall of separation between church and state …”

One of our greatest tools in being effective Christians is to understand and hold history in an historical perspective!
